Crimped Diamond Tutorial

Hello all, here is a tutorial showing you how to create a Crimped Diamond Card for yourself.  There are quite a few photos as I didn't want to leave out a single step.  I hope you find the directions clear and easy to follow.

For this kind of card you will need the following:

I piece of cardstock cut 4 1/4 x 11 for the card itself

1 Piece of colored cardstock cut 4" x 5 1/4".  This is the piece that will go through the crimp-er

Several pieces of colored cardstock which coordinate/contrast

1 piece of cardstock which will be used to stamp and color the image on.  I have used Cryogen White.

A scoring device

Ruler and pencil

Crimp-er

Embellishments to  finish your card

Adhesive

Step One:

Mark the 4 x 5 1/4 piece of cardstock with a pencil at 2 5/8" on both long sides.  Mark at 2" on each of the short sides.

 Line up one of the 2 5/8" mark and one of the 2" marks in the scoring tool as shown above. Score a line between these two marks.  Turn your card and continue to score a line between all four pencil marks.  Your will have created a diamond shape with the score lines. See the picture below.

Step Two:

Fold on the score lines so that you now have a piece shaped like a diamond.

Step Three:

Fold the two top corners together into the center and place the point created into the crimp-er.  Begin to turn the crimp-er handle so that the card moves through it.  Stop just as you get past the edges of the card.  Remove and repeat with the opposite side.  I found it makes a better impression to run each point back and forth once or twice to ensure that you are getting a strong crimped pattern.

This is what your piece should look like now.  You can use this piece either this was or turn it over.  Each side gives a slightly different edge to the folded edge.  I would call this the back side, but I found I liked the roped appearance of the folded edge.

When you flatten this piece out you may find it to be uneven on the edges.  I simply put it into my paper cutter and took very thin cuts to even those out.

Step Four:

I made a template of the diamond shape in the center so that I could get exact measurements for each layer of the center diamond.

  I measured and folded this piece of typing paper to make sure I was getting it right.  You can see that across one way of the diamond measure 4 5/8" while the other side is 3 5/8".

Step Five:

Using your template, draw the pattern onto your first layer of the diamond.  Here I used Chocolate Chip. You will cut this piece 1/8" smaller than your drawn line. 

Then using this new piece as a template draw around your next layer of cardstock.  Here I've used Tempting Turquoise.

Repeat this exact same method  of cutting 1/8" smaller than the lines you drew, using your turquoise piece as a template to cut a smaller piece of card stock that you will stamp your image on.  Adhere the first two layers together.

Now you are ready to stamp your image and color it and piece the card together.  I put my crimped piece on some Chocolate Chip card stock and added some pearl accents in turquoise.

Tissue Box Cover Tutorial

I have been requested to do a tutorial on how I made the little Tissue Box Cover. Although my sample is made for a Mini Tissue Box measuring 3 x 3 x 3, you can easily adjust the measurements to fit a full size or rectangular size box.

 For this project you will need: 

2 pieces of card stock cut 3 x 6 1/2" and a coordinating piece of card stock cut 5 x 5 inches 

Scoring tool, cutting tool Cutting mat and Xacto Knife

Dies for images - your choice Edge punch (I used a Martha Stewart punch) 

4 Magnolia Mini images 

Copic markers or your choice of coloring medium 

Template for top of box. 

Flowers, buttons, pearls, whatever strikes your fancy for decorating the top of your Tissue Box. 

Step 1.  Cut two pieces of card stock for the sides of the box 3 x 6 1/2"
Cut coordinating piece 5 x 5"

Score the side pieces at 1/2" and 3 1/2"

  

You will join the two pieces together by securing one flap of one side to the longer part of the other side.  Is schould look like this when your finished.  You don't want your flaps to be visible on the outside of your box, so be sure to put your tape on under side of one 1/2" flap and the upper side of the other 1/2" flap.

Fold the two pieces around your tissue box and folding tabs under the longer piece remove backing from each strip of tape and secure.  This box is removeable.  Do not secure any part of the box cover to the actual Tissue Box.

For my template I used a piece of clear card stock cut 3 x 3".  Place that on top of your Tissue Box and with a Sharpie Marker draw the outline of the whole.  Keep the removable oval from the Tissue box for a reference guide before cutting your hole in the lid. Set this aside while you prepare your lid.

Line up and punch all around the four sides of the lid.

Place the punched piece on your scoring tool and score at 1" around all for sides.  You can see here how they intersect.

Now, snip away each of the four corner squares.

Now, place your lid template in the 3" square you've just created with the scoring tool.

 

Carefully slide the oval template under the lid template so that it sits right inside your marked oval.

The use of clear card stock makes this step much easier as you can see exactly where you need to place your oval template

Carefully remove the clear template and draw around your oval template on the lid.

Using your exacto knife cut the oval piece from the lid.

Now you can add your lid to the sides of the tissue box.  Use ScorTape on the sides of the lid and secure it to the sides of the box. 

Here is the final result! 

For my tutorial Tissue Box I cut another strip of matching cardstock 1 1/" wide by 12" long, punched one edge and added it in similar manner as the top - no corners to cut on this bottom piece, just tack it all the way around. The images I used here are Tilda with Spitz Pocket #3093 from the Special Moments Collection 2013 and Cute Little Edwin #123 from the same collection

On this side of the box I used Cute Little Tilda #3014 from the Once Upon a Time 2013 Collection and Prince Orjan #12 from the Lost and Found Collection.

ON the top of my box I used a mix of flowers, leaf punches, pearls and a butterfly.

I love the look of the butterfly hovering over the flowers so I simply attached him on a coiled piece of flower stem and added a couple of black beads for his body.

Valentine Treat Box Tutorial

Welcome to another tutorial. This time we're going to make small treat bags. These are very quick and easy so you can make up a ton of them as I did with the Valentines Treat Boxes. 

Here is what you'll need for this project:

•  A 6 x 6 sheet of strong double sided designer paper, or you could use just plain cardstock.
•  An Envelope Punch Board
•  ScorTape or other very strong adhesive Hole puncher (I used my Crop-a-dile) 
• Ribbon to secure the lid. 

 So lets get started.

First, place your 6 x 6 sheet of paper into the Punch board lining up the edge of the sheet with the 2" mark.  Punch and score.  Move the paper along and line it up with the 4" line, punch and score.  Turn your paper 90 degrees and line the edge up with the 2" punch and score, moving again along to the 4" mark, punch and score.  Repeat this for all the sides.  Your piece should look like the one below.

 

Next you want to put two opposing points in the back of the Punch Board and punch to round the corners. Or you can use a hand held corner rounder.

 

The next step is to punch a small hole with a hole puncher on only two sides that are opposite from each other, here I've used my Crop-a-dile.

Now fold on all your score lines so that they are crisp.

Flip your paper over so that the outside is facing up.  Your will notice that there are small triangle shapes in every corner.  You are going to place a piece of ScorTape on the fold of one of the triangles.  You can see below that I placed them on the same fold sides.

Now your going to remove the paper backing from the tape and creating a V with your index finger, pull two edges of the box together.  They need to be lined up and match perfectly.

Repeat the same procedure around each corner.

When you done that your box will look like this on the inside.  You will have four flaps which you can just fold tightly against the sides of the box.  If you prefer you could add a little glue dot to keep them secured to the side. 

Fill your box with desired candy and fold the two side flaps in.  Bring the top flaps over and secure them together with ribbon or twine.  All you need to do now is add a small tag to hang from the ribbon.  I used Tilda with Spring Heart here on a heart shaped die.
