Magnolia-licious™ Challenge - Hearts and Flowers

Boun giorno, I"m so glad to have you back visiting my blog.  Today is our first Challenge of February.

What better way to usher in the month of February than with some hearts and flowers.  Valentines Day is this month.  Do you know the history of this wonderful day?  It dates back to the 5th Century and is named for a Christian martyr.  It has it's origins in the Roman holiday Lupercalia, a pagan celebration of fertility celebrated in mid January.  Christians decided to Christianize it by moving it to mid February.  It wasn't until the 1300's that it became associated with love and romance.

February 14 was know to be the birds first day of mating, and soon greeting cards began being exchanged in the 15th century and by the 17th century it was a well established tradition in England.  Not long, after it spread to the U.S. and...well...the rest is history. In the US alone, over $20,000,000 a year are spent on Valentines cards, candy and flowers.  There is very little known about the Saint from which it derives it's name.  So there you go!  How's that for a bodacious start?

I have quite a few photos for your perusal - again!  For this challenge I made an Explosion Box.  I really had fun designing this one.  Thank goodness for empty toilet paper rolls.  That's the center of my box....but for starters.....
Here is the very top of my Explosion Box.  The Heart Dies are from Spellbinders, while the tiny hearts are a Michael's $1 punch.  The sentiments is from PrintworksCollections and the flowers are from my stash.

Here is a view showing a little more of the sides of the box.  I used Doohickey Die Vintage Lace to border all four sides of the lid.

Here is just a little peek at the inside of the box with two of the sides down.

Here is the box completely open.  I have used 4 Mini Maggies placed on Spellbinder Fancy Labels Two.  All the paper is from my stash and I didn't have a company name available.

Here is a view looking straight down on the box.  The pretty white die on the top, which holds all my suspended hearts if from the Doohickey Die Collecdtion Oh La La.

So here is the center of my box.  I suspended a number of hearts on lengths of silver cord.  There are two hearts together so that it covered the cord.

Following are the four Mini Maggies that I used.    All are colored with Copic markers and Adirondack Lights.  The Silk ribbon is also from my stash and I've had it for years!

Many of these Mini images are on sale so please check out Diana's fabulous store for savings on these and many more featured items.

Hello blogging friends.  I have a very cool project to share with you today.

But please let me remind you that your comments mean a lot!  You could win a Surprise Package from Diana just for leaving a comment on any of the DT projects.

PLEASE remember to leave a comment for our "LEAVE A COMMENT" prize. You can leave a comment for any of the DT member posts over the last week or any of the weekly posts here at Magnolia-licious Challenge Blog.  Now for my project:

I saw a tutorial on Sam Donaldson's blog creating these cute little boxes which would hold a dozen tea lights.  I made a couple of them before I realized that the dimensions of her boxes were not going to work for our American tea lights, which are a little larger.

I had to rework all the dimensions, which for a math flunky like myself was a huge challenge.  I finally got it right!  Here are the results...

I found the DP at Hobby Lobby.  As it's still summer here I'm just not feeling that cool chill to prepare me for some Fall creations.  So  my recreated box hold 12 little tea lights.

I've used #3123 Pisces Tilda on the front of the box.  I chose the Labels 18 Dies for the aperture in the box and to mount Tilda on the box. The ribbon is from my stack and holds the box closed.  I stamped a SU Sentiment onto a tag that has a silver border.  I've got a ton of these and have forgotten all about them.  I also added a piece of clear cardstock on the inside of the lid to prevent the candles from falling out.

As you can see, the box holds the candles in two layers - six on each.

Here is a closer look so you can see that it really does hold 12 tea lights. And notice that the front edge of the box lid is  also cut in the same shape (or 1/2) as the aperture

Here are the first few that I made. You will notice that  these smaller boxes could only hold 5 tea lights.
This sweet image used here is #3109 Gucci Tilda
Here I just used some pretty design paper.  This style of box work best if the opening in the lid is smaller.

Again I used some pretty design paper and a little sentiment.
Thanks for stopping by today and leaving me a comment.  That comment just might get you that Surprise Package. Good luck...

Many blessing to each of you,
Barb

Dr. Monday M.D. Cute as a button.....

My Dr. Monday M.D. post for today is a little set of note cards and matching envelopes in a sweet little box.

Please check out my DT buddy  Patty Jo's blog for her project for this week.  I'm tellin' ya, she is a master with the dies and always has such inspiring projects.

Okay, let's go on with the show...

My daughter came for a visit in March (yes I've been working ahead) and snapped this one up for herself! Thank goodness I'd taken pictures of the set before it left my house.

 Here are the pictures:

Here is the wee box.  I had bought a stack of MME paper which really caught my eye.  So the theme for this project was already decided.  The ribbon and buttons are from my stash.  I used Spellbinders Classic Circles and Scalloped dies.
My first little note card uses #3021 Love Love Love Tilda from the 2013 Special Moments Collection.  The note card is propped up on the matching envelope.  The little flowers are a newly acquired punch from Punch Bunch.

Next I used #04 Tilda with Large Balloon from the 2014 Lost and Found Collection.
This collection must have been very popular, because there are no images showing in the shop.
:-(
Here is note card #3 using #01 Tilda with Fantasy Flowers also from the Lost and Found Collection and also not available. =(
And....my final note card.  This is #07 Write a Message Tilda - no longer available :-(

Here is the set -
A final look at the four note cards with their matching envelopes.

Thank you so much for dropping by today.  I appreciate the comments you leave and look forward to showing you what I've been up to in my next post.

Many Blessings,
Enjoying the journey

Dr. Monday M.D. - Origami Boxes

Happy Monday morning my dear friends.

I have a very picture heavy post for you today because I didn't want to leave out a single detail.
I found a YouTube site that was teaching how to make these Origami Boxes and I just HAD to try one. Rather than going to all the trouble of doing up a tutorial, here is the link to making origami boxes that I used. This gal has a wonderful website with oodles of ideas for card making.

These little Mini's are so adaptable for any kind of use.  You can see that I just centered most of the image onto a Spellbinders Classic circle, but left the bottom of the image off.  Works for me!  Each of these images is available at Diana's online store as well as all your other card making necessitites, flowers, dies, adhesive, Magnolia designer paper, you name it and she carries it. She also offers in store credit, so that each time you purchase something from the store, she puts a percentage back into your account.  You can let it accumulate or use it on your next purchase.  And this is on top of her already discounted prices.

Well, you know how it goes, I made one, and then had to make another just so that I wouldn't forget and then another adding some Maggies on it so I could use it as a post and then I just had to try a different size and that was so cute I made a card to go with it. Pant, pant, pant!   If you have the tenacity to get through this post then you can be very proud!
And so because this IS so picture heavy, lets get on with the show so you can see my handy work...

This Teal colored box is actually my 3rd box.  I put some Mini Maggies on each side. Here is #3062 Tilda Binding Flowers.

I took my pictures outside - sorry for the shadows *sigh*  This is #3116 Afternoon Tea Tilda
Here you see #01 Fantasy Flower Tilda
The final side...#A17 Flower Tilda with Bow Knot

Here is a view of the top and bottom of my box.  I used lots of flowers and pearls and even put half back pearls on the bottom for little feet.  These lids are fabulous because they have a lip on them that fits perfectly into the box preventing the lid from slipping off.

This is a view of the inside of my box.  You can get an idea of the puffiness of the sides. Too cute!

A closer look at how I adorned the top...

Here is a smaller box which was made with an 8X8 piece of DP.

A View of the interior of the box with the lid propped beside it.

The Lid and the Bottom of the box...

A closer look at the top of this box.  I used gingham ribbon to form a loop so you can pull the lid off.

Here is the little note card I made to go with the box.  I masked the images. #3006 Tilda on the Loose and #528 Suitcase with sign. This set would be an ideal gift for someone who is moving, or going off on a travel adventure.  The possibilities are endless for themes.

A side view of the card.  I mounted each square with SU Dimensionals to give the dimension.
This is the very first box I made.  Double sided good designer paper is perfect for these boxes.  One 12 x 12 sheet for the box and a coordinating one for the top and inside.

A side view.  On this you can more easily see how the ribbon loop works.

Adding a matching color of cardstock to the bottom not only gives the box stability, but it covers those points and gives the box a very finished look.  I used little wooden pegs which I colored with Black Copic marker for the feet.

This was my second box and I experimented a little with this one, keeping it quite simple with very little embellishment.

The top - I really kept this one simple.
The bottom, again using small wooden pegs, colored with Copic Marker.

That's it for this Monday.  This was much more than you bargained for I'm sure, but I hope you enjoyed seeing my creations and that you'll visit Diana at Magnolia-licious store and get your order in for some Mini images.

Bear hugs and many blessings,
Barb

Dr. Monday M.D. I'm boxed in!

Gooooood morning my lovelies, welcome back to my blog for another Dr. Monday M.D. post.
I'm not tired of making boxes yet, as you can tell. I keep finding more fun projects to make and of course I can never make just ONE!

So before I go any further I want to remind you of these CUTE CUTE CUTE new Prima Chalk Edgers.

Prima Chalk Edgers now in stock...great for stamping & inking your projects easily!
So many pretty colors and only $2 each!

You can also find more inspiration over at Patty Jo's blog.  She is absolutely the QUEEN of Dies.  She is incredible and creative in how she uses them.  So please hop over to her blog to see her awesome creation for this week.

Well, now, on with the show!

I've become an avid follower of Sam Donald's Pootles Papercrafts.  She is always coming up with new and fresh ideas for using punches, stamps and the Envelop Punch board.  So this week (and more to come in the future) I have used her tutorial for Fold Over Top Box and did a little readjusting so that I could put a delightful Mini Maggie on each box.  Incidentally, each box holds two Ghirardelli Caramel filled Chocolate squares...YUM!

Here is the first box I made.  I have used #3021 Love, Love, Love Tilda from the 2013 Special Moments Collection

My second box uses #06 Tilda with Spring Heart from he 2014 Lost and Found Collection.  I'm sorry to say that she is not longer available.  In fact only 7 images remain available from the collection.
Sorry, I've tried to move this image to be under the one below but it won't cooperate!  Anyhoo, here are the three Fold Over Top boxes together...on each of these I used a Mini Brad (SU) and punched a small hole to create the closure.

And finally, here is sweet #12 Afternoon Tea Tilda also from the 2014 Lost and Found Collection.  As with Spring Heart Tilda, this one has sold out.  :-(

Here is one more treat box.  This one is very bright and cheerful and a birthday box.  The closure for this box is different from the other three.  I used the SU Tag Topper for the fold over portion, made a paper bow with my Envelope Punch Board and instead of a small brad to hold the box closed I used two very strong but very tiny magnets.

The image is #3013 Hip Hip Hurray Tilda from the 2013 Special Moments Collection.  She is AVAILABLE!!!

I punched two small bits of coordinating paper to put between the magnets.  If you don't do this you will never get the box opened as the magnets are so strong.  It's a cute finish too!

Well, that's it for me for this Monday.  Be sure to drop by again next Monday to see what I've been up to during the week.

Many Blessings,
Enjoying the journey
Barb
