Tongue Piercing???

We all know how much it hurts if you get a sore on your tongue, or accidentally bite down on the edge of your tongue when you're chewing something. It HURTS!!! Why people spend money to get their tongues pierced is beyond comprehension, not to mention the risk involved that the piercer might just hit an important nerve in the process. But accidents with our tongues do happen and such is the case in our household today!

Josslyn, the most adventuresome of the twins pulled the ladder up to the trampoline today, while I was moving my car from the street into the carport. I heard this horrible screaming and ran to see what was the matter. There was blood all down the front on her shirt and she was fairly inconsolable! I brought her into the house and began to inspect her chin and teeth but couldn't find the source of the blood. I did what any wise mom would do and asked her where she was hurt. Then she stuck out her tongue and it was quite a site to behold. With blood pouring out from the teeth indention marks I had to check her out closely to be sure she didn't need stitches. Whew! She didn't!

But she wasn't too happy about eating dinner. It caused her tongue to bleed again. So after a valiant attempt to eat we finally resorted to a popsicle which did the trick...well for a while anyway...

I grabbed my camera and got a couple of pictures of the injured muscle of woe! She keeps running to the mirror in her bedroom to look at it!

Unfortunately I can't seem to find a recipe to stop the bleeding and the wound isn't deep enough to require stitches, so I guess it will be lots of popsicles to help it heal!

Blessings and hugs,
Barb

  3. OMG! poor baby.. that must hurt. to help heal and I think it would also work on the bleeding, is a bit of salt in water. make her spit it... I know that there is some kind of antispetic to stop bleading, but I don't think it is recommanded for such a young child... but salt and water will do the job for sure... and it will prevent infection . let me know if it works for Josslyn.Hugs.

  13. Ouch poor little girl. That's sure is painful looking. I hope she heals real quick. When my son was young he went to kick a football. He actually hit his knee into his chin which resulted into biting all the way through his tongue. We took him to the ER but really nothing was done for him. Kids seem to get boo boos often. I know your little one has a fantastic nurse.

  16. Never a dull moment. I have never liked trampolines for private use -- Orthopeditic surgeons and Pediatrians will tell you the same thing. So many injuries - she was lucky - it could have been a lot worse. One of my granddaughters broke her arm on a neighbors tramoline. Know she is better - Popcicles do the trick that's for sure!

  17. Aww, poor baby! How is she doing now? Tell her that I bit the tip of my tongue off (just a little bit - but enough) while flying across country and eating my steak dinner! I was in my 20s! Talk about feeling stupid! I bled from Philadelphia to Denver! The flight attendant did give me ice and that did help by shrinking the corpuscles. Your maternal instinct was right on! Hope J. is doing better!
