Bill's second surgery...

Bill had the second surgery today instead of yesterday. His Orthopedic Surgeon wanted to be able to do it himself. The decision was made to remove all the hardware from his leg, they flushed his leg completely again and they found that the bone is still not well healed! So without the hardware to give it stability, he won't be able to walk. He has been diagnosed with MRSA, and the infection is pretty deep into the bone and tissues. So when he comes home Thursday, we will be having Home Health Care come to administer antibiotics and a couple of times a day. It could take several months for the infection to be completely eradicated and when he is clear then we're looking at more surgery to do something to stabilize that bone again.

The children and I are holding here together at the house. It's pretty tough having to handle it all by myself, but Jordan is being a real trouper. He helps me as much as possible (remember he's only 5) and the girls, well, their 2 1/2 year olds. At least they have each other to play with, but it keeps me hopping.

Thank everyone for your continued love and support and prayers. I'm pretty weary and find myself near to tears most of the time, but I'm still breathing, so I'm alive, which means there's hope.

Hugs,
Barb

  1. Barb, hang in there!! It sure sounds like such a setback, but hopefully the infection will clear up soon and they can get back to doing what needs to be done.... glad your hubby's doctor wanted to handle the operation... at least he's familiar with the situation. Try to get a least a couple minutes for yourself to regroup and if tears are needed.... well... go to the bathroom and let them flow!!! Nothing wrong with tears....
    Many, many hugs!!!

  3. I second everything Teri said. So sorry you're having to go through this, but hang in there. You are strong, and you can do it. If you can stay mentally strong, then you've won the battle. Hopefully the girls are still taking a nap which will give you a little break in the afternoon. Wish I lived closer so I could help!! I guess my prayers and cyber hugs will have to do for now. My thoughts and prayers are with you, sweetie! Stay strong!
    big hugs!

  4. Barb I'm so sorry that you DH got an infection. Many years ago my DH had osteo mylitis and had to have a port in his chest for the meds to go in. However in the process the meds were too potent and blew his ear drums out. After all these years he has adjusted and the bones healed. Praise the Lord! You are all in my prayers and I'm sure you have your hands full. All we can do is take one day at a time and keep our eyes focused on the Lord. I always remember the scripture Phil. 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strenghtens me.
Thinking of you and hope you'll be getting some good news.
    Hugs, Cathy-Lynn

  8. Oh Barb, I am so sorry - like Sharon Caudle, I wish I were closer to help. You have the strength and spirit all you have to do is ask. Lean on Jesus and He will carry you through and heal DH leg. You have much love and prayer out here - let the tears flow when need be...they're healing...and remember to take some alone time. I continue to pray for your family. Hugs and love to you all, Sharon :o)

  9. Barb, so sorry to hear of all your troubles. I will be praying that Bob will heal completely and that he will be able to be patient during this long and I'm sure frustrating healing time. Barb, probably the best thing you could for yourself is to go have a good cry. There is nothing more healing than a good cry!
Be assured that your on-lines friends are praying for your families well-being during this difficult time.
    Hugs,
    Myrna

  10. Oh Barb, I pray the Lord continues to give you and your hubby strength to get through this. I hope there is someone you can lean on for help! The toughest thing I've learned to do during difficult times is to ask for help...even if it's just someone to watch the kiddos for a little bit so you can get some rest. I pray someone close by will be there for you. Hugs, Rosie

  13. Barb, Just dropped in to see what you were up to....and I was shocked at how much you've been up to. Oh, if you were closer - I would take those little children for you so you could have some time to visit with hubby or just lend a shoulder. Take care, with all the medical technology I'm sure there will be a light at the tunnel soon.
Big Hugs, (rubber) and inky wishes,
    Madge (in Beautiful BC).
